the global progress toward the SDGs of clean water and sanitation
WASH It is used widely by non-governmental organizations and aid agencies in developing countries. The purposes of providing access to WASH services include achieving public health gains, improving human dignity in the case of sanitation, implementing the human right to water and sanitation.
Over the past 50 years, the WASH sector has grown into a huge network of projects, departments, idea hubs, utilities, service providers, research organizations, and consulting firms that all work toward the same goal: giving people in developing countries access to clean water, good hygiene, and sanitation (Sustainable development goals: United Nations Development Programme).
The more than $400 billion investment resulted in a variety of WASH delivery programs that are active worldwide and producing quantifiable effects. According to the UN, between 2000 and 2021, 2.4 billion people will have access to safe water supplies, and about 2.1 billion will have access to safe and improved sanitation (Universal access to clean water is within reach. how can we achieve it?).
